State Flag and State Song
What kind of people live in Oklahoma? All
kinds of people live in this State. People representing almost all
ethnic groups and cultures live here.
For example, Czech people immigrated to Oklahoma and live in Prague.
Each year there is a festival honoring their heritage. Also, Greeks
and Russians came to near McAlester to work in mines. A Russian Orthodox
Church is located at Hartshorne, as a result.
The State is most rich in the history and culture of the Native Americans
living here. There are more Indian tribes living in Oklahoma than in any
other State. This is why it was and still is Oklahoma, "Land of the Red
People", in the language of the Choctaw. In fact, there are 65 Indian tribes
within the State. |
